growing up, summer was probably my least favorite season. i was stuck at home with devil woman and no real escape, and i was forced to do swim team, which i still have a collection of 8th place ribbons somewhere.
it wasn’t all bad, though! i had some friends in my childhood neighborhood, but the best parts of my early summers were going to visit my grandparents when they lived in Jacksonville, FL. i got to be spoiled a bit, go to waterparks and arcades, go to St. Augustine to see Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, and the Alligator Farm, and the lighthouse. I got to go to the fancy beach golf club thing my grandparents were a member of and swim in the pool and the ocean. But despite all the fun, i remember it being a bit…lonely.
but my best summers came starting in middle school! i started going to blue lake fine arts camp in michigan, where i got to do non stop art projects for like two weeks, and also started going to a camp for queer kids in canada! both of those camps were the highlight of my summers as a teen, and i cherish them so much, even if there were times that weren’t all great, i wouldn’t trade my experiences there.
now as an adult, summer is still a somewhat bittersweet season for me, but i get to associate it with working at the ballpark and helping out with the summer show at my community college, which is always an outdoor show, and usually shakespear.
i wanted to make this page as a way to kind of hype myself up about summer and allow myself to get excited, to collect the imagery that makes me pumped and motivated to have a great summer.
